Fingerboard and Purfling
Andrew made the purfling (the inlaid black and white strips on top and back of the violin) out of Box Elder wood cut by Mike Center, a member of the Sonoma County Woodworkers Association. The black strips were dyed using acorns and rusty nails found in Andrew’s back yard.
The fingerboard was made from a Pacific Madrone tree that was killed in the Tubbs Fire of 2017 The madrone wood was harvested and milled by Jess Running of JL Palo Urbano.
